About the project
We obtained an exciting maintenance project through our contract with Bergen Municipality at AdO Arena. It was a very time-critical project.
AdO Arena is Norway's main facility for swimming and diving! Many perceive this as a new facility, but it has actually been standing for 8 years. The facility is open every single day, from 6 in the morning until 12 at night, every single day of the week. So, there is enormous wear and tear on both the facility and the technical equipment. When the hall is closed, it's a crisis in the city! So, we have to work quickly, and it has to be well planned.
Scope Of Work
The pool where the work was to take place is 50 meters long. Our main task was to set up scaffolding around the diving tower arrangement. We had to consider that there would be a lot of maintenance from other disciplines in the pool when they drained the water. We facilitated access for the other work that needed to be done. The main idea was that when they emptied the pool, there would be a depth of 5 meters where we had to build scaffolding along the entire width of the pool for the first 5 meters. We needed to set up the scaffolding on the sides as quickly as possible so that others could start working on the 3-meter diving tower while we continued building up to the 10-meter tower.
The challenge
What made the project time-critical was that the pool had to close to the public during the work. Our time window for the project was 10 intense days during which all the work was to be carried out.
Preparation was crucial to ensure fall protection. We had to consider health and safety (HSE) to ensure it wasn't dangerous for those moving around in the pool and that we had good protection against falling objects.
The solution
We chose to create a thorough model of the task and plan precisely how we would solve it in advance. It was especially important that we secured control over the materials we needed to mobilize so that we had everything ready when the project began! We ensured all the components were in place at the facility.
