About the plant
The energy plant in Rådalen has two furnaces with grate-combustion that can burn approx. 14 tons per hour each. In total, the plant can burn 28 tonnes of waste per hour and receive 220,000 tonnes of residual waste annually. When the waste is burned, steam is produced which in turn is used for electricity and heat production.
Scope of work
The job was to remove slag residues from combustion chamber 2 before work was to be carried out in the lower part of the chamber. The walls of the combustion chamber were cleaned.
We spent 8 hours at work cleaning the walls of the combustion chamber. The purpose of the work was to avoid potential falling slag residue to ensure safe work for people working in the lower levels in the combustion chamber afterwards.
Access was challenging- it was cramped and we had to use breathing equipment. It was a critical job as BIR could not operate the furnace while the work was in progress. StS-ISONOR mobilized one RAT team and on the same day the assignment was carried out.
Feedback
StS-ISONOR has performed similar assignments for BIR as for many years and we get great feedback on our short response time and that we solve the assignments at the agreed time.
